DRIVE & BIKE
2 Wheels + 4 Wheels = Increased Options!
In our ongoing mission to offer more biking options in Greece, we have created the concept of Drive & Bike. It is a form of self-guided tour, but instead of biking from Destination A to Destination B with your luggage transferred to your hotel, you drive from Destination A to Destination B with your luggage in the car and do bike loops in each region.
Advantages of Drive & Bike
♦ You have the flexibility to not ride a given day and still reach your next hotel.
♦ You have the freedom to explore regions and sites not part of the biking itinerary or inaccessible by bike.
♦ If the weather does not cooperate you have the option to not bike that day and instead travel by car.
♦ If your partner is not a cyclist and is comfortable driving, Drive & Bike is a solution for biking and non-biking couples. Same with groups; riders and non-riders can rendezvous during the day or all be together at the end of the day.
♦ If the non-cyclist driver stays in the vicinity of the rider, in lieu of panniers the vehicle can carry day packs, extra gear, spare water.
Logistics of Drive & Bike
We arrange a vehicle with a rental car company we patronize. We forward your credit card to the rental company for security purposes. You sign the rental car contract not for the basic rental cost but for liability purposes in the event of accidents or damages. The fee for the rental car is included in your tour cost, along with a rear bike rack and GPS. Groups over four persons are given a mini-van with the rear seat removed to hold the bikes and luggage.
The cost of a Drive & Bike tour does not include gas, tolls or parking fees, nor increased insurance coverage beyond the basic deductible (which is usually about 500 euros). All vehicles are manual stick shift; automatic steering is an upgrade in Greece. If your tour itinerary does not start and end at the same destination, the drop-off fee at another destination is included in the tour cost.
In Greece you drive on the right side of the road. Most signs are in Greek and English. The speed limit in Greece is usually 100-120 km per hour on highways unless otherwise posted and 50 km per hour in residential areas. Gas stations do not have self-service and many stations do not accept credit cards. Road assistance is included in your car rental agreement.
